June 28 - road to Steamboat Rock State Park
Early start, left the site by 9:30. Spring canola seems to be the preferred crop here. When in bloom it has a pleasant scent of "waffles"...I don't like to eat waffles but boy does it smell good!
I took Lu for a quick walk after we ate and in that time they found out the owner does it all....she is the waitess and cook, sells odd grocery items, western clothes, Tupperware and ice-cream. She has 6 kids, 4 girls and 2 boys, oldest girl 16 is a nightmare.... and she really only wanted 2 kidd. She plans on renovating the upstairs into rooms for rent, each room a different theme.... adding a hairdressing place (yes, she's also a hairdresser), and she does it all herself.
The whole family was involved originally but that was a crazy disaster so she is sending her husband back to be a contractor and she will do the rest.... and the food was great!...and nobody had waffles...
Next stop was the overlook of Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkson, Washington!
...more canola...
Stopped in Coalfax to see the Codger Pole
Safety first....
Loved these signs above a newly planted garden..
And more canola...
Pastures and farmland changed to rock! Love this drive.
Home sweet home for our last 3 nights! Sites all nicely raked...not like some we have been to. First place we have ever been to that has 2 sewer hook-ups, one in the middle of the site and one at the end. ...someone was thinking!
The Kriegs great site also! Another great dinner cooked by Charlene!
Lu chilaxing in her wagon as we visit. She loves it in there!
June 27 - the long winding road north bound
Had a pretty late start today, one last walk around the campsite.
Monkeyflowers....I guess they look like a monkeys face??
This is our travels so far.
We had a long drive today. It was not long before the lava fields were replaced by fertile farmland frames by the Sawtooth Mountains.
Boise Idaho bored passenger pictures....
Lu giving me "stink eyes" because I would not let her in the front seat...
Left the city and followed some raging rivers for many hours. Lots of tubers and rafters. Stopped for a roadside-Riverside lunch.
McCall Idaho. Looked like a pretty rich lakeside community...no time to stop though, but next time we will stay for a visit for sure!
More rivers....more mountain passes, little rain...
Home for the night was a Passport America deal at $21.06 full hookups in Grangeville. Mostly full-timers just trying to get by and a few spots for traveller's. Super nice people here, but it's obvious money is hard to come by for some.....
