June 14 - Road to Page Arizona

Another cool evening but a warm sunny morning. Perfect day for traveling.

We have about a 3 hour drive to Page Arizona. Co-pilot all ready to go.

Left the forest behind pretty early in the drive.

In the Vermillion Cliff area we stopped at an area called the Cliff Dwellers in Marble Canyon.

Back in 1927 Blanche and Bill Russel were driving through the canyon when their car broke down. After many failed attempts to fix it they camped out.  The next morning they were so drawn by the beauty of the area that they built the home around the largest rock and set up a trading post.

It's hard to understand how these two are standing like this.

These look like pictures you might have on your walls, but they are windows.

Next stop Navajo Bridge

The boys playing chicken in the middle of the road....

It's also a popular area for tour boats and rafter companie.

Up another large hill...

Back down to flatter land and vast views....

Made it, Page Arizona on Lake Powell!

So, we get to our campsite and the previous campers let their kids excavate the sand area and obviously the sites are not cleaned after. So I finally get in touch with someone and ask if they have a maintenance crew and if we could have this cleaned up....silence...so I ask if we can even get a rake to do it....finally a very tired worker drives up in his cart....pulls up....waits ... and I go up and ask if he has a rake for me...he finally gets out of his cart...gets the rake and hands it to me.....it's obvious he's not raking today...
About a half hour later he toodles by on his cart again....pulls up...I put the rake in his cart....he says "sure is getting hot out"....yawns and pats his mouth...chuckles and drives away after a hard day's work...

Freshly cleaned pricey campsite at Mahweap  RV and Marina. Home for the next 3 nights.

Lu is not too happy that she has to finally wear booties  to protect her little feet from the "goathead" thorns..

The weather changes here quite quickly...had ourselves an evening storm.

And to confuse us all, Arizona is on mountain time but they do not follow daylight savings time...but the Navajo Nation does...which is where we are...so our cell phones are going crazy  pinging between cell towers. Many people book tours and show up at the wrong time...yikes!
